An Apology to our Users
You have surely all noticed poor service and lack of development over the last two years. We thought it is really about time to let you know what is going on. We worked hard until late 2005 to develop a first-class IMPS service, since we strongly believe that traditional IM networks are not well suited for mobile phones. Also we wanted to make the service free, which would also allow us to test the software, Unfortunately, even with the initial support of phone manufacturers, we have bitterly found that mobile operators are reluctant to adopt such a technology, probably not only because it's disruptive, but because of the tremendous interoperability challenges that remain to be solved. The end result has been a sharp decline in our funding all the way to no funding. There is no support team any longer, and all we have time for is restarting the service once in a while. Even worse, the lack of any remaining cash means the service is at risk. Of course, donations do help and are very much appreciated, but unfortunately are not a long-term solution. While donations help to pay 1~2% of our hosting fees, we require about €900/year just to keep the lights on. We will keep the service running as long as we can, but we thought it would be fair to let you know that this service may cease to exist if don't solve the funding issues. Finally, we have made a commitment to ensure that going forward we keep you better informed than over the last couple of years, even if the news are bad like this one.
Many thanks for your continued support and patience throughout these rough times.

Yamigo is not affiliated in any way with any mobile operator, and we cannot be held liable for the mobile phone charges you may incur while using our service. Actual operator fees vary, and before using extensively our service we encourage you to investigate how your operator is charging for GPRS data transfer. It is also possible that your operator will charge you a flat fee for the data traffic.
Our recent experience proves that the Yamigo service is already a fairly stable solution able to accomodate a variety of mobile phones from an assorted collection of manufacturers. |
